Richard's son mark launched the team onto the professional motorsport stage in 1990 when he finished second in the Mazda MX-5 Cup Series. Since then, the team has claimed no less than three outright championship titles, eight top three championship finishes and in excess of 50 race victories encompassing VW Vento VR6, Vauxhall Vectra SRI V6, NSCC and Anglo-American Challenge series. In 2000, Barwell finished in second and third place in the BTCC Class B, taking nine victories.
