Reid returns with WSR

Reid returns with WSR - 05/04/04

West Surrey Racing has confirmed that Anthony Reid will partner Colin Turkington in its assault on the 2004 British Touring Car Championship. The team has also revealed that it will be going for honours in the BTCC’s HarrierZeuros Independents Trophy, after cash-strapped manufacturer MG decided against renewing its ‘works’ support for the project.

The cars entered are an updated version of the WSR designed and built 2003 MG ZS. However, this year the cars will be powered by the Judd developed K2000 4-cylinder engine.

WSR Team Principal, Dick Bennetts said: “Colin and Anthony worked well together in the team last year; continuity is important and it’s great to have them back as team mates. With two top-line drivers we’re confident of independent victories and challenging the works teams for overall race honours.”

Reid added: “It’s a great opportunity for me to be competing in the BTCC again. WSR and Judd have done a fantastic job in developing the car and engine. I put the car and the 4-cylinder engine through its paces last week and I’m very encouraged by the whole package. I can t wait to get back on the grid at Thruxton.”

Bennetts also stated that the team is hopeful of expanding its programme to include a third car: “The programme has been very late coming together and in order to get the best out of the new engine/chassis package we have decided not to spread our resources too thinly at this critical early stage.”

“From the third round of the Championship at Silverstone onwards we intend to be running three cars.”
